Elgin and Enerpower have emerged as significant collaborators in the renewable energy landscape. in June, 2024, the two companies marked a significant milestone by formalising a partnership to develop approximately 94MW of solar energy across multiple sites. This commitment would take Ireland one step closer to their carbon neutral goals by 2030.

Initial Phase: Three Sites of 6.8MW Each

The first phase of this project involved the construction of three initial solar sites, each with the capacity of 6.8MW. These sites were selected for their optimal exposure and position. Together, they represent a combined 20.4MW of clean energy generation.

Construction on these initial sites began soon after the June announcement, with teams working around the clock to ensure efficient progress. With modern technology and high-performance photovoltaic panels, these sites will provide substantial energy output once fully operational.

Signing of the Fourth Contract of 37MW

Following the success and momentum of the first three sites, Enerpower and Elgin signed the fourth contract in August which added 37MW, bringing the total project to 57.4MW. The site located at Pickering Forest will be one of the largest solar installations under the partnership.

Fifth Contract Signed in September for a Future 24MW

An additional three sites were added to the mix, all with a capacity of 6.8MW. This brings the contracted partnership to 81.4MW. That is enough energy to significantly reduce emissions, and support the UK’s transition toward a renewable energy future.

Construction Progress and Timelines

Construction on all sites is now well underway, marking significant milestones in different stages of completion. Several of the initial sites are already halfway finished, with teams making impressive strides in panel installation, infrastructure setup, and grid connectivity. This proactive approach highlights the companies’ dedication to operational efficiency and project milestones, even as they prepare for the logistical and environmental challenges that come with large-scale solar developments.

With multiple phases occurring simultaneously, the partnership is on track for some to be completed early 2025 and the rest to follow in 2025. Upon completion, these installations will contribute to the grid’s stability, providing reliable renewable power. The sites are strategically located to maximize exposure to sunlight throughout the year, optimizing their output and supporting the region’s energy resilience.

As the sites progress toward completion, Enerpower and Elgin’s 94 MW vision is coming to life, promising cleaner energy and a reduced carbon footprint for Ireland. Through their innovative approach, these companies are contributing to the nation’s renewable energy targets and playing a crucial role in the global transition to sustainable power sources.
