In recent years, the urgent need to combat climate change has become increasingly evident. As the world transitions towards a greener future, governments worldwide are stepping up their efforts to incentivise sustainable practices. One such initiative gaining traction is the announcement by Minister Ryan and Coveney of the ‘enhanced support for businesses through the ‘Non- Domestic Microgen Grant’.

Solar PV: A Sustainable Solution.

Solar power is a clean and renewable energy source with immense potential. By capturing sunlight and converting it into electricity, solar panels offer businesses an eco- friendly, cost-effective alternative to traditional energy sources. By investing in solar panels installation, businesses can drastically reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to the global shift towards renewable energy solutions.

New Non- Domestic Microgen Grant.

As of July 2023, the Government announced the approved amendments to the ‘Non Domestic Microgen Grant’. These amendments will now cater to a wider range of businesses and non-domestic applicants. It will be awarded through tiered grant support for installations ranging from 6 kWp to 1000 kWp capacity.

This enhanced range of 6 kWp up to 1000 kWp along with the reduction in the financial burden will encourage businesses of all sizes and sectors to embrace clean energy technologies, thereby fostering a more sustainable business landscape.

Grant Amounts Available from Non- Domestic Microgen Grant.

The amount your business can receive in a form of grant for the solar pv installation depends on the standard output of your solar pv system. The maximum output of 1000kWp can be funded through the scheme, with a maximum grant offering of €162,600*.

Economic Advantages for Businesses.

Implementing solar panel systems through financial grant schemes such as the non- Domestic Microgen Grant, can bring a variety of economic advantages to a business. Solar panels provide a reliable and predictable source of energy, leading to long term cost savings on energy bills. As businesses become more energy independent, they are less exposed to the volatility of fossil fuel prices, enabling them to allocate resources effectively and invest in other areas of growth.

Moreover, a great advantage of this shift towards renewable energy is, solar panel installations create job opportunities in various sectors, such as manufacturing, installation, and maintenance. This fosters economic growth, stimulates employment, and boosts local economies. Financial grants, therefore, further facilitate this transition by incentivising businesses to invest in solar technologies.
